Student Trustee Elections

To everyone, As the two student trustees for the 2015-2016 year, Allison and I wanted to share the wonderful opportunity with you – the opportunity to become a student trustee. What does a student trustee do? Allison and I co-chair CSLIT (Catholic Student Leadership Impact Team). Here's a link to our website: http://cslit.org/ and promotional video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXCiwY7y-tY . We select an executive for CSLIT through an intensive application and interview process. Once selected, CSLIT hosts monthly general assemblies open to all high school students of TCDSB. We have keynote speakers, different initiatives, volunteer work and networking during these assemblies. Outside of these general assemblies once a month, CSLIT must meet 1 or more times a month to the plan the GA and to work on other projects. Allison and I also, host two President's Council conferences, where we gather all the student councils of each high school to discuss prominent issues and network. We also assist in organizing , facilitating and emceeing the Voices That Challenge Conference. Which included Marc Kielburger and Emmanuel Jal as our keynote speakers, as well as numerous workshops. In addition, Allison and I must attend multiple board meetings (around 2) on evenings during the month with the trustees of TCDSB to bring student voice to the policy discussions. Allison and I also, have the privilege of going to 4 conferences through OSTA-AECO (The Ontario Student Trustees' Association). Here's a link: http://www.osta-aeco.org/ where we collectively bring student voice together. I would say that these are probably the most important things we do. However, there are always extra meetings, galas and lunches that we are asked to attend. Being a student trustee, is definitely one of the highest leadership opportunities that you can obtain in high school. You would be representing the voice of 93,000 students in TCDSB. It is a HUGE time commitment and you really get to become close with your co-student trustee and CSLIT executive. If your school has a grade 10 student, who you feel would be an excellent candidate for this two year position, please encourage them to run in this year's election The election will be held on April 26th and nominations and applications are due April 11th the latest. For further inquiries feel free to contact myself or Allison. Thank you for your continuous support of Catholic Student Leadership! karina.dubrovskaya@tcdsb.org and allison.gacad@tcdsb.org
